About Ham Drive - Day Care

Other Information Ham Drive Nursery School and Day Care is a maintained school with qualified teachers providing high quality education and care for children from 2-5. We can admit children from across Plymouth and they can move onto any Primary School for their reception year. We are one of only two maintained Nursery Schools in Plymouth the other being our Federated sister school at Plym Bridge in Estover. We always work from the child's interests and plan learning based on these. In the Nursery School the child's Key Person will lead a structured, planned teaching input for their group daily and the children will be engaged in free play for the rest of the session ending with a shared story experience. In the Day Care children are engaged in free play and will spend some time in small groups singing or having a story based input depending on their age and stage of development. We are able to accommodate children with Me2 funding and 15/30 hour funding for 3 and 4 year olds and families are able to purchase additional sessions beyond these if required. The Nursery School and Day Care has a large attractive garden area, housing plants and trees; recent work has further improved the area, providing an outside extension to the classroom. The school also benefits from a dedicated sensory room for the use of all children in the nursery including those with additional needs, which has been relocated as a result of the internal refurbishment. We aim to: Welcome all families regardless of race, creed, colour, social class or religion and value the contribution that they can make to the school and society in general. Value the uniqueness of each individual child who comes to our school. Support the positive development of every child no matter what their background. Ensure that we meet the needs of all children including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. Provide a warm, happy, safe, stimulating and caring environment, in which each child can develop as a whole person. Develop in adults and children a love of learning and a desire to continue to expand their knowledge and skills throughout their lives. Develop a partnership with parents that will support their child's learning. Help children to live together within a community, to develop a sensitivity to others and to become responsible, independent people. Develop in children a positive sense of moral responsibility, self-discipline and respect for authority. Instil confidence into children and adults so that they feel valued. Develop in children a spiritual awareness and a sense of wonder at the complexity of our world. Help children understand and respond to their emotions. Recognise and celebrate achievements at all levels. Value play as an important part of the learning process. Enable children to experience a wide range of learning opportunities and help them to discover some of these in more depth recognising that each child has particular strengths and interests.
