About Ham Drive - Day Care
Other Information Ham Drive Nursery School and Day Care provides high quality, teacher led, education and care for all children under five years of age. We welcome families seeking both government funded and privately funded places for their child(ren) and are keen to work in partnership with families to ensure the best start for every child. We are one of only two local authority maintained nursery schools in Plymouth and are federated with the other, Ham Drive Nursery School and Day Care, located in the Ham area of the city / Plym Bridge Nursery School and Day Care in Estover. Our highly skilled and experienced qualified teachers and early years practitioners create engaging learning environments that capture children’s imagination, encourage curiosity and support every child to enjoy learning through independent play and exploration. We pride ourselves on the quality of our caring, safe and stimulating nursery environment to instil a love of learning for life. Every child is allocated a Key Person. This is an important element of ensuring children build warm, trusted relationships in nursery and feel confident, happy, settled and can thrive. We highly value the individuality of each child and provide wide ranging educational learning opportunities that are based on children’s interests and their own developmental steps of learning. Our purpose-built school is easily accessible for all children and families. We recognise and celebrate achievements at all levels. There is a strong emphasis on inclusive practice in our nursery school and we welcome children with special educational needs. We recognise the importance of actively supporting children to develop their language and communication, emotional and social skills and physical development as the foundation for all other learning. Children are encouraged to explore their own ideas and develop knowledge, expertise and independence alongside our supportive, nurturing staff. Children access daily singing sessions and a story based input depending on their age and stage of development. Additionally, in the Nursery School the child's Key Person will lead daily structured, planned teaching inputs for their group each session, addressing all aspects of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. The school benefits from an attractive, extensive outdoor environment. This provides a multitude of additional learning opportunities, including a mud kitchen, a range of climbing apparatus to support gross motor skills and a nature explorers garden, where children experience growing a range a plants, exploring the natural world and singing round the camp fire. The school also benefits from a dedicated sensory room for the use of all children in the nursery, including those with additional needs. We provide term time and all year round provision, as well as wrap-around care sessions in the form of breakfast, lunch and afterschool club and are open from 7.45 to 6pm, Monday to Friday.
