About Alexandra House Childcare (Plymouth) CIO

Other Information At Alexandra House Childcare Centre, the curriculum is designed to provide purposeful activities, high-quality play, and rich learning experiences that enable all children to learn, develop, and thrive. The setting offers a stimulating and inclusive environment that promotes curiosity, exploration, resilience, and a lifelong love of learning. Every child is recognised as a unique individual, with their background, experiences, and needs valued and celebrated. Learning through play sits at the heart of practice, with a balance of adult-led teaching, child-initiated exploration, and strong parental involvement. Following the EYFS framework, the nursery promotes a language-rich, nurturing environment that supports communication, physical development, personal independence, and social and emotional well-being. Strong key person relationships, consistent routines, and meaningful partnerships with parents underpin daily practice. Inclusion is central to the curriculum, with effective SEND support, multicultural engagement, and community experiences that build children’s cultural capital and understanding of the wider world. Through responsive planning and ongoing assessment, all children are supported to make strong progress from their individual starting points. At Alexandra House Childcare Centre, we are committed to delivering rich and varied learning experiences through a thoughtfully planned programme of extra-curricular opportunities. These optional enhancements complement the core EYFS curriculum and broaden children’s learning beyond the classroom. Our provision includes visits to a local residential home, library trips, community litter-picking initiatives, local walks, and road safety activities, alongside opportunities for children to actively contribute to their local community. We take pride in fostering positive relationships with our neighbours and local businesses, regularly encouraging children to participate in acts of kindness, such as sharing flowers and cards with messages of positivity. Children also benefit from a range of engaging enrichment activities, including participation in our Big Brush Club daily tooth-brushing scheme, baking experiences, themed events and celebrations, and visits from external providers such as Zoo Lab. To further support learning at home, we offer home learning packs and access to our learning library. These experiences play a vital role in supporting children’s holistic development. They help to build confidence and independence, strengthen social and communication skills, promote hands-on, experiential learning, and foster a strong sense of belonging within the community. We believe that learning should be meaningful, memorable, and enjoyable, and these opportunities are integral to achieving that vision. Our overarching aim is for every child to leave Alexandra House Childcare Centre as a confident, kind, respectful, resilient, and curious learner, fully prepared for the next stage of their education and for life beyond the setting.
